Job Summary :

Design railcar components with a primary focus on the loading and unloading devices. Design these products to encompass innovative features, ergonomics, ease of manufacturing and reliability. Work with our supply chain personnel to utilize suppliers that offer unique capabilities and value. Update existing products based on customer site visits, product benchmarking, functional and specification analysis. Lead internal design review meetings and communicate technical concepts to other engineering groups, manufacturing, sales, and aftermarket personnel.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and analysis of control valves, pressure relief valves, vacuum relief valves and gauging devices.

  • Design and analysis of outlets (pneumatic, gravity, butterfly and fluidized)

  • Design and analysis of pneumatic conveying systems

  • Design and analysis of loading devices such as manway and hatch covers.

  • Working knowledge of ASTM, ASME and AAR regulatory standards.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing practices including fabrication, machining, and welding.

  • Capability to design with Solid Edge.

  • Proficiency with analytic and communication tools

  • Communicating highly technical engineering concepts to non-engineer stakeholders.

  • Running internal design review meetings.

  • Up to 20% domestic travel to Greenbrier facilities, customer sites and supplier facilities

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field; and

  • 3 years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Design Engineer, or similar position.
