The overall responsibility of this position is to lead all finance and accounting functions of the Greenbrier ARI business, which covers about six plants. Areas of responsibility include financial reporting, planning, variance analysis, cost/management accounting and reporting, customer and product profitability, capital expenditures & accounts receivable/payable, Customer audits, G/L payroll, and cash flow maintenance.
Business partner with operations to implement strategies and track performance to ensure a successful business.
Accountable for accurate and timely development, reporting and active management of the P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow.
Lead finance and accounting staff across several locations to provide the necessary support for the business.
Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
Recruit, train, evaluate, and lead financial staff across Greenbrier ARI.
Oversee and assist with the maintenance of accurate financial records, including preparing timely and accurate monthly financial reports and analyses.
Work with Global Manufacturing Organization (GMO) to manage and implement appropriate cost accounting policies and procedures to properly support the success of Greenbrier ARI.
Work closely with Commercial to update standard costing and related customer billing. Support customer audits of billings in accordance with contracts.
Communicate with GMO and corporate office on financial reporting and analysis, providing relevant fiscal information.
Coordinate and lead the annual and long-term planning processes for Greenbrier ARI.
Monthly, quarterly, and annual analytics over the actual performance as well as providing direction on adjustments to the forecast monthly.
Lead preparation of reporting and analysis for Greenbrier that are related to quarterly board meetings as well as monthly requirements to corporate office.
Oversee, review, approve, and analyze capital investments of the business.
Drive preparation and reporting for monthly operations reviews with GMO.
Take initiative to engage in cost-saving and revenue generating opportunities.
Proficiency in all aspects of finance & accounting and all pertinent GAAP rules and regulations.
Support monthly close and quarterly external SEC reporting requirements.
Work with corporate and GMO to identify, communicate, review and advise on technical accounting issues
Reporting and analysis of railcar backlog, shipments, and profitability.
Assist GMO in maintaining and updating long-term plan with periodic updates.
Implement and maintain fiscal controls and procedures in order to maintain compliance with SOX.
Coordinate with internal/external auditors and corporate financial reporting team to facilitate financial and internal control audits.
Capture system wide data and turn the data into actionable business intelligence where leadership can apply the data to strategic as well as functional and operational decision making
Oversee the Greenbrier ARI cash management and reporting, including historical and forecasted cash activity of the business unit and assist corporate treasury as needed.
Issue credit approvals/recommendations -- perform risk assessments of potential and current customers working closely with Leasing and Commercial.
Monitor collections and past due accounts receivable and promptly alert Commercial, GMO leadership and Greenbrier's Corporate Controller of any significant issues or concerns.
Develop and implement continuing education and training for staff and provide leadership to enhance the financial acumen of the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, MBA preferred
CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
Experience leading a team in a Senior position
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Accounting/Finance Management
Solid experience with global manufacturing organizations in an operations finance role.
Strong Financial background, FP&A, cost accounting, cash flow, and business analysis experience.
Strong problem solving & analytical ability. Rollup sleeve as necessary to get things done.
Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes, cost accounting, product costing and pricing strategies.
Strong Excel skills, including development of complex financial models and use of formulas (VLookup, pivot tables, etc.)
People skills - customer oriented, positive attitude, team player.
Ability to self-manage and prioritize.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work under tight time constraints, handle sensitive data, and deliver quality work on time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong knowledge of GAAP. Knowledge of internal controls and Sarbanes Oxley.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
