Design and Analysis Engineer (Stress Engineer) The Design and Analysis Engineer must have a minimum qualification of a B.S in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace Engineering with 5 years of working experience in Structural Design and Analysis. Should be proficient in the use of at least one finite element analysis software preferably Femap / Nastran or Hyperworks. Railcar industry experience is preferred but not required. The Stress Engineer should be capable of performing structural analysis using classical stress methods, finite elements and fatigue to verify the adequacy of the design.
Specific duties of the Design and Analysis Engineer include the following:
Determine the loads that act on the product
Using the loads, determine the conditions of stress that act on the product
Utilize sources to quantify the material's resistance to static and fatigue loads
Determine the margin of safety under static load conditions
Determine the fatigue life under repeated load conditions
Communicate product structural needs to the project engineers
Conduct product testing to validate analyses in a lab or on the field
Perform advanced nonlinear analyses of structures
Size welds and fasteners
Understand basic design solutions
Perform ASME pressure vessel code calculations.
An understanding of basic manufacturing processes is preferred
The candidate must be willing to pursue an advance degree with emphasis on Structural Design and Analysis if he or she doesn't have one already.
