Plant Journeyman (PJ) or Journeyman (J) maintains, installs and repairs production equipment and maintain the facility. Performs repairs in one or more areas with little or no supervision in accordance with service manuals and manufacturer's specifications. Under the direction of the Plant Supervising Electrician, installs wiring for new machinery and replace electrical components in a professional manner.


The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Installs, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs electronic controls and equipment that require advanced technical knowledge including: switches, controls, central and subsidiary control panels on machine tools and welding equipment, as well as circuits on welding machines, paint equipment, shot blasters and other process equipment.

  • Diagnose and remedy electrical problems on all electrical apparatus including communications equipment, power circuit, motors and generators.

  • Works from oral and written instructions, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings and code books.

  • Generate work orders, edit and complete in DAX2012.

Will be trained in:

  • Parts ordering and issuing procedures.

  • Operation of Ariel Man lift, Scissor Lifts.

  • Lock out Tag out Policy and program.


The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Has a broad knowledge of applied electrical practices, techniques and theory of operation of electrical and electronic equipment and controls.

  • Ability to perform installation, repairs from oral and written instructions, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings and code books.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively as a member of a team.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong worth ethic, flexible, reliable, and punctual.

License or Certificate

The minimum license requirement is the General Journeymen (J) or Limited Journeyman Manufacturing Plant (PJ) license for the State of Oregon


Typical work schedule is 8-hour shift, M-F. Must have availability to work at least two of three shifts (Day, Swing, Grave)--varies depending on production needs. Shift assignments are long-term and do not change unless production needs change or in the case of an approved request/accommodation. Overtime may be required depending on production needs; may require up to 10 hour work days and/or work on weekends.


Environment : Manufacturing site environment requires work around traffic and heavy manufacturing equipment; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders; dim lit areas, on slippery or uneven surfaces, exposure to heat, cold, noise, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, toxic chemicals; inclement weather conditions; moving objects/vehicles. Work in confined space required: Yes

Physical: Must be of height and weight that will allow entrance and movement through man way and tank openings. Ability to carry/lift and push/pull up to 50lbs occasionally; stoop, bend, climb, kneel; stand or walk for extended periods of time; operate motorized vehicles and equipment. Respirator fit required: NO

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read printed documents and operate equipment; ability to distinguish color.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
