SUMMARY

Operate plasma and/or gas burning machines to make parts for railcar or marine production

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate burning machines, track-burners, and hand torches

  • Check parts for quality of burn and correct dimensions

  • Must be able to use a tape measure and possess good math skills

  • Keep paperwork in order

  • Help in landing plates on the tables and in unloading parts

  • Keep work area clean

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with adjustable wrenches, tip cleaners, pry bars, hammers, hand magnets, jib hoists, tape measures, plus various specialty hand tools.

Working Conditions

  • Work overtime as required (varies, may require some weekend days)

  • Work around traffic and heavy manufacturing equipment

  • Work at heights on scaffolding and ladders, in dim-lit areas, on slippery or uneven surfaces

  • Exposure to heat, cold, noise, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, toxic chemicals, and inclement weather conditions

  • The burning alley is covered but is still subject to temperature extremes.
