Summary

Responsible for all purchasing functions and control of all inventory material. Ensures material storage/handling and inventory control is performed in such a manner as to minimize inventory variance. As a department head, reports directly to the Plant Manager. Works closely with Quality, Customer Service and Production to ensure production is not disrupted due to insufficient supply of material. Work closely with administrative office staff to ensure material and shop supplies are ordered and maintained at adequate but not excessive levels.

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain a high level commitment to safety and the adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for all purchasing and control of all inventory material throughout the plant.

  • Develop sources for the procurement of production material.

  • Maintain an appropriate level of material inventory, including cores, for shop operations, by reviewing production requirements, identifying critical material and monitoring existing inventory levels.

  • Minimize amount of idle/obsolete inventory, by establishing methods for identifying idle material, and supervising disposition of such material through buyback, sale to affiliate, external sale or scrap.

  • Direct the purchasing function, by developing corporate procurement procedures, training personnel, and updating procedures when greater efficiencies can be achieved.

  • Maintain procurement and receiving operations, by designing forms and systems, ensuring verification of incoming shipments, costs, delivery and product quality.

  • Ensure accuracy of material marking system, by training personnel in receiving and material marking, monitoring this process through audits, and initiating corrective actions when needed.

  • Define efficient procedures for purchasing and material management.

  • Maintain the part numbering system, by assigning numbers and updating the outline as needed.

  • Control inventory levels, by establishing and maintaining a regular cycle count program and reconciling with administrative records.

  • Plan and execute annual physical inventory in conjunction with Plant Manager and Controller.

  • Ensure parts used for production are relieved against inventory through DAX.

  • Maintain working knowledge of DAX and train employees on use of DAX.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in management, purchasing, and warehousing.

Working Conditions

With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions. Employees are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions dictate.
