Job Summary:

The Plant Manager is the senior leadership operations position responsible for the site P&L and setting strategic direction for the facility. The Plant Manager will lead and develop a team of department managers as they work towards meeting the financial, continuous improvement, and operational goals of the facility. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to leading overall operations including safety of all production staff, optimization of production, materials, quality assurance and control, human resources, finance and customer service. The Plant Manager will report to the Assistant Vice President of Operations and will be held accountable for budgeting, inventory, safety and operational effectiveness at the repair facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continually monitor operations to continuously improve productivity, effectiveness, and efficiencies. Develop and propose improvement plans for senior leadership consideration.

  • Develops and manages full P&L responsibility for the facility.

  • Responsible for ensuring companywide programs, policies, and procedures are implemented effectively within the facility.

  • Ensure safety and the environment is made the highest priority within the facility; strive for continual improvement in compliance with federal, state and company directives.

  • Provide hands on leadership to mentor, develop and performance manage the team.

  • Coordinates internal and external resources as needed to provide team member training, efficiency improvements, and reduction of quality non conformances.

  • Accountable in incumbent's location for Greenbrier's reputation as the facility's leader for customer, and vendor relationships.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the location and network best practices in wider group.

  • Effective use of standard office computer technology such as databases, word processing, ERP and reporting systems.

  • Knowledge of General Accounting Principles and effective accounting controls.

  • Working experience with proven results implementing and leading quality and continuous improvement methodologies such as LEAN, Six Sigma, high performance teams, ISO and/or 4DX.

  • Requires the ability to manage and prioritize multiple goals.

  • Ability to effectively lead, develop and present information to broad groups of audience, including senior management and external customers.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization.

  • Must be willing to relocate based on company need.

Education and Experience

  • Preference for Bachelor's degree in Business or related field

  • Experience leading an organization of 100 people minimum

  • At least ten plus (10+) years minimum experience required in an operations or heavy manufacturing/heavy mechanical repair environment.

  • Five (5+) years minimum experience in a tank car railcar facility .

  • Five (5+) years minimum of demonstrated successful leadership experience managing multiple levels with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with managers and hourly employees.

  • Demonstrated ability to run a successful operation building and managing a P&L budget with revenue in excess of $25 million dollars.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategies into operation objectives and projects and drive action through others.

  • Strong analytical skills, self-motivated with excellent team work.

  • Goal oriented and a strong customer service attitude.

S/he will have experience in developing a strategy that covers a range of products and/or markets, and encompasses the full range of organization implications and links with the series of initiatives and priorities that are compelling and logical for the business.

People Development . The ideal candidate will have shown the ability to support specific development needs of others and provide practical support to develop those needs with reasons and rationale by sharing not just what to do but why to do it. S/he will systematically and constructively gather individual development input from multiple sources to define development feedback. The candidate also will set specific individual development goals to build the capability of the organization before long-term success and also develop his own successor over the next few years.
