Job Summary
The Sr. Manager of Technical Accounting is a highly visible individual contributor role in the Corporate Accounting organization serving as a key advisor to the corporate and global operational accounting teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
Research and document accounting positions per US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for complex transactions on accounting procedures and policies
Evaluate the accounting consequences of potential material transactions, deal structures and arrangements and provide input and suggestions to planned and proposed agreements and ventures
Responsible for purchase accounting for any new acquisitions or joint ventures
Manage the annual and interim goodwill impairment analysis process
Assist with the preparation of the Company's periodic SEC filings
Partner with business unit finance staffs, treasury, international operations and accounting group in proactively identifying complex or unusual accounting matters and assist business units to define the appropriate accounting treatment for non-routine business activities
Work with the VP Corporate Controller and other financial officers to handle complex issues and transactions and provide guidance to domestic and international divisions on accounting issues
Provide guidance and training on technical accounting issues to various finance and accounting staff and constituents
Assist with the implementation of new accounting standards
Assist in the Company's SOX compliance efforts including the implementation of key controls and procedures
Provide expert guidance on GAAP and global accounting policy review ensuring compliance
Follow emerging accounting issues and proactively analyze their impact on the Company's results and financial position
Monitor new GAAP and SEC pronouncements and changes to help define, recommend and implement necessary process and reporting changes
Create and revise key accounting policies (e.g. revenue recognition, cost accounting) and make recommendations as needed with regard to policies and procedures in order to bring uniformity with regards to accounting policies and methods throughout the global organization
Work closely with the Company's auditors and other service providers regarding technical accounting matters
Prepare appropriate accounting memos and documentation on transactions to support external and internal audit requirements and SOX controls
Special projects as assigned by senior management
Assist with external audit coordination and requests
Qualification and Experience:
A well-qualified individual with the appropriate balance of the following experiences:
Four or more years' public accounting experience with a BIG 4 or top tier public accounting firm with major SEC clientele and a minimum of total experience of six years in accounting or finance positions of increasing responsibility
Significant knowledge and experience in applying and interpreting technical accounting, reporting and disclosure requirements; preferably has held a previous role in a technical accounting advisory group.
Must possess good quantitative and analytical skills combined with solid business and financial acumen
Ability to independently research FASB, SEC and other accounting issues, form a conclusion and prepare high quality written documentation for senior management
Capable of reading transaction documents with a focus on matters that may have accounting or disclosure requirements
Transactional exposure and understanding of the process involved in resolving significant or complex accounting matters that may arise
Experience working with international teams highly desired
Possess highly developed oral and written communication skills

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required and an appropriate graduate degree is highly desired
