The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. Performance Assurance Engineer in Georgia

The Performance Assurance Engineer is responsible for leading the Inspection and NDT Certification Programs within the GBW Railcar Services LLC network, to include the implementation and the execution of policies, procedures and standards in accordance with Greenbrier Rail Services, LLC. Policies and Procedures, Association of American Railroads (AAR), Manual of Standards and Recommended Practices, Specification for Tank Car Tanks, and related AWS and AAR rules and technical standards. The Performance Assurance Engineer is also accountable for achieving targets established for customer satisfaction and profitability by improving quality and service delivery. The Performance Assurance Engineer is responsible for identifying and reporting nonconformance data with a focus for continuous improvement. The Performance Assurance Engineer may also participate in AAR, FRA, Customer or Internal Quality Assurance facility audits and certification events.

This position reports to the Greenbrier Rail Services Director of Quality.

The essential duties and responsibilities are listed below.

  • Participates and supports company goals and expectations

  • Trains, mentors and coaches employees

  • Supports improvement initiatives

  • Supports Quality Team communication

  • Ensures implementation and oversight of the NDT Programs

  • Ensures implementation and oversight of the Inspection Training Program

  • Supports facility during customer visit & audits

  • Supports facility during external audits (FRA/AAR)

  • Performs Technical Performance Evaluations of certified personnel

  • Other duties as assigned

Must successfully complete the following training and become certified within 90 days of hire or job transfer and on a three year recurring basis:

  • GRS Quality Assurance Program

  • GRS Hazmat, General Awareness, Function Specific, and Security Training.

Additional training as needed applicable to the future growth of Greenbrier Rail Services

  • NACE Level 1 Coating Inspector Certification Program

Active participation in the following industry related events :

  • AAR Tank Car Committee Meetings

  • AAR Annual Quality Assurance Conference

Education/Experience Required

  • High School diploma, college degree (associates or bachelors) preferred in engineering, operation, technical, or related field or equivalent experience. Extensive knowledge of transportation regulations.

  • Preferred: A minimum of 5 years' rail car inspection, test, or related experience. Previous supervisory experience.

  • NDT Level II in VT, MT, PT, UT, LT, IR; AWS CWI

  • Heavy Industrial Environment

  • May work around a multitude of hazardous chemicals / wastes through the supervision / execution of yours and your teams' daily duties while repairing railcars which may be in open or OSHA permit required confined space

  • Thorough understanding of the MSDS's, company safety policies / practices, and proper use of identified PPE which may involve protective clothing, sleeves, hard hats, foot protection, eye / ear protection, respirator use, etc.

  • Requires long periods of standing; walking, bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, and entering into confined spaces and elevated surfaces

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. or more to accomplish work tasks around heavy moving equipment

  • With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions

  • Travel is required approximately 85%.
