Due to our growing customer base, Greenbrier Management Services is seeking to fill a newly created Asset Manager (Railcar Fleet Maintenance) role. This position will assist the current Asset Management team in providing maintenance and management support for Greenbrier owned and/or managed railcar assets. This support includes communicating with car owners, customers, parts vendors, repair shops, mobile repair service providers, and both internal and external team members. The role will also require performance of the audit process for repair estimates and invoices, review of repair procedures, and invoicing responsibilities as defined by the lead Asset Manager. This candidate will be responsible for management of the railcar asset through all mechanical and maintenance phases of its life. Furthermore, this candidate must have the ability to communicate railcar metrics and current asset health to the car owner. The ideal candidate will be based in the Fort Worth, TX area but candidates outside of this area will be considered.
Effectively disposition or coordinate mobile repairs for bad order or defective railcars. Includes communicating required instructions with the repairing party and creating proper documentation for the repair process.
Prepare shopping instructions and coordinate shopping events with shops
Create car shopping notifications using Greenbrier procedures.
Review and process railcar repair estimates from repair shops and mobile repair service providers.
Exercise judgment regarding repair shop selection determined by nature of defects and type of railcar.
Manage and expedite, to the extent possible, the process of bad order and program cars going in and out of repair shops using various Greenbrier systems.
Communicate with car owner and/or customers for the purpose of securing repair estimate approvals.
Communicate as the liaison between GMS, the car owner/customer, and the repair service provider.
Verify repair cost and procedures meet industry and Greenbrier standards.
Audit and process both contract shop and AAR maintenance repair invoices.
Maintain customer status reports.
Communicate and participate as needed with Engineering and Compliance teams.
Participate in communication, conference calls and/or face to face meetings.
Qualifications and Experience:
Must have a strong work ethic and be self-motivated and self-managing. The ability to work diligently and independently is a must, as well as the ability to work with other team members and service providers.
Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in office and in field settings.
Excellent working knowledge of computers, PC software (MS Office suite, Internet-based software) is a must.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Ability to multitask simultaneously with limited supervision
7+ years of rail industry experience is strongly desired
Knowledge of railcar manufacturing and repair processes strongly desired
Knowledge of tank car anatomy is a plus
Willingness to travel up to 15% within US
