Provide maintenance and management support of Greenbrier owned and/or managed railcar assets. Audit estimates and invoices, collaborate with internal GMS groups. Communicate with cars owners, customers, parts vendors, repair shops and mobile repair service providers. Follow Asset Management established SOPs and procedures. Perform analysis and review of customer assigned fleets, ensure the mechanical and maintenance integrity of the assets. Ability to internally escalate and externally communicate information on the status of that asset to its owner. Be able to identify, report, and communicate anomalies and trends related to maintenance spend.
Effectively disposition or coordinate mobile repairs for bad order or defective railcars. Communicate with the repairing party on required instructions and documentation for proper repair process.
Exercise sound judgement regarding repair shop selection determined by nature of defects and type of railcar.
Create shopping notifications using Greenbrier procedures
Manage and expedite the process of bad order and program cars going in and out of repair shops, using Greenbrier systems
Review and process railcar repair estimates from repair shops and mobile repair service providers
Communicate with car owner and/or customers for repair estimate approvals as needed
Communicate as the liaison between GMS and the car owner/customer and the repair service provider
Verify repair cost and procedures meet industry and Greenbrier standards
Audit and process both contract shop and AAR maintenance repair invoices
Process and manage railcars reported with wreck repairs, defect card, JIC, estimate and pictures
Manage the process for scrapping cars as needed
Communicate and assist in coordinating warranty repair as needed
Maintain reports, parts, and component data information in the Greenbrier maintenance system
Monitor and Implement industry required changes and regulations accordingly
Communicate directly with car owners, customers, handling lines, and repair shops
Communicate and collaborate with Engineering and Regulatory Compliance teams
Participate in communication, camera conference calls and/or face to face meetings
Perform railcar inspections and shop audits, as needed
Backup other Asset Managers and Sr. Asset Manager as needed
Travel within the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as needed
Qualifications and Experience:
2+ years of progressive rail experience
Experience with railcar equipment in a similar environment
preferred knowledge of manufacturing, repair operational functions, and AAR/FRA rules and regulations
Strong work ethic, self-motivated and self-managed
The ability to work diligently and independently is a must, as well as work with other team members and service providers
Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in office and in field settings
Excellent working knowledge of computers, PC software (MS Office, Internet-based software), and the ability to learn new software is a must
Strong ability to multitask and perform in a conceptual and technical environment
