Job Description

Responsible for researching and development ideas and processes for new products. Improves upon the performance and design of existing products and oversee the production of final product. Plan, organize, and perform engineering assignments including the design of products and parts while assuring full compliance will all regulatory requirements. Build knowledge of processes between the organization and customer. Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors and principles. Documents research and design specifications by creating accurate and complete drawing packages. Performs required calculations per specific codes, selects and specifies tolerances, materials and components, as required in product design. Meet with customers and repair shop personnel to determine ways to improve product and design. Work with sales and marketing to assure pricing and design capability.

Primary Responablility

  • Design, model, and test prototypes for products.

  • Conduct research and create design proposals for projects.

  • Establish design briefs.

  • Full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques.

  • Create concepts, performance, and production criteria.

  • Creating Project Plans that clearly outline the purpose and timeline of the project.

  • Produce drawing packages that clearly communicate work to be performed.

  • Solves a range of structural problems; analyzes possible solutions using hand-calculation and Finite Element Analysis techniques.

  • Has specific knowledge and understanding of AAR Chapter 4 & 7 design load cases.

  • Possess experience in own discipline; while acquiring additional higher-level knowledge and skills.

  • Adhere to organizational guidelines and processes while meeting customer expectations.

Required Experience

  • BSME degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant rail engineering experience

  • Familiar with AAR M-1001 specifications for design, fabrication and construction of freight cars and AAR M-1002 specifications for tank cars

  • Knowledge and understanding of rail car systems, components, steel structure and steel fabrication

  • Ability to create designs that are functional, durable and cost efficient

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
