The Sr. Manager, Operations is the business leader over all aspects of the operations of multiple tank car facilities, will establish goals for the business unit, and be held accountable for overall unit performance, P&L and customer satisfaction. Will be responsible for analyzing effectiveness of existing operating processes to include adherence to regulatory Quality and Technical Standards to ensure business growth and achievement of financial and operations metrics. This position will also be responsible for designing, developing and implementing key performance indicators then analyzing lead and lag measure to make continuous improvements in the operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

*Develops and maintains strong customer relationships. Establish customer service measurements, evaluation and reporting processes to properly manage service performance; ensuring customer concerns are addressed, including development of action plans to close services gaps.

*Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the region.

*Responsible for asset performance over expected useful life of assets by ensuring proper maintenance programs and care.

*Responsible for development and execution of a capital expenditure program including quality expectations, budgets and timelines.

*Establish and maintain measurement systems and metrics to provide senior leadership with broad information about the status of operations.

*Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations (AAR FRA, DOT, OSHA, etc.) as well as internal company policy implementation.

*Partner with corporate Quality and EHS departments to ensure production quality and risk mitigation; leader in implementing EHS and Quality standards within unit.

*Leader for the region's plant managers (direct reports) including staffing selections, professional development, training and holding team accountable for results.

*Travel is required approximately 50% or greater depending on home location.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual will possess the following knowledge, characteristics, skills and/or abilities:

*Proficient in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office, internal and customer billing systems, car management systems, and ERP systems

*Working knowledge of internal and external surface preparation and coatings systems application and maintenance for Tank car tanks.

*Working knowledge of Tank car control valves to include OEM and reconditioning.

*Working knowledge of NDT processes and requirements per MSRP M-1002 Appendix T.

*Working knowledge of welding processes and requirements per MSRP M-1002 Appendix W.

*Working knowledge of Tank car Repair, Alteration, and Conversion to Tank cars per MSRP M-1002 Appendix R. Examples are re-qualifications and retrofits.

*Industry knowledge of AAR, FRA rules, DOT regulations; federal and local EHS knowledge

*Experience performing root cause analysis of incidents, hazard assessment, job safety analysis and job safety observations.

*A strong working knowledge of budgeting / financial principles including GAAP and P&L

*Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships

*Foster teamwork with proven leadership skills

*Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills while communicating with all levels of the organization

*Ability to organize effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines

Experience & Education

*BA/BS in a related field or equivalent industry experience in a comparable role, both a degree and experience is a plus.

*10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in a freight railroad (tank car) maintenance/ operations environment with demonstrated success in meeting key objectives.

*Must possess a valid driver license with a clear record.

*Demonstrated knowledge of related regulation i.e. Code of Federal Regulations, workplace requirements i.e. OSHA, material and labor requirements for the work in a tank car environment.

*Process improvement experience (4DX, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).

*Project Management skills including the ability to organize and prioritize multiple client projects to meet deadlines.

*May work around a multitude of hazardous chemicals / wastes through the supervision / execution of yours and your teams' daily duties while repairing railcars which may be in open or OSHA permit required confined space.

*With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions.
