Summary
The Mechatronic Engineer improves existing mechanical systems and maintenance programs for new and existing production lines, develops alternative concepts and prototypes, designs and tests mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems and repair practices, and develops various automated systems. This role works within demanding timeframes and develops original, practical solutions to problems while drawing on a wide range of engineering principles, and is not afraid to wander into unchartered territory.
Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.
Automates the machine process and controls the parameters of systematizing company’s proprietary metalworking equipment/machines, automation devices, automation equipment, and automated production line machines.
Identifies, develops and monitors a preventative maintenance program for mechatronic machines and tooling across manufacturing business.
Develops KPIs for machine reliability and performance to drive increased production and reduced downtime.
Creates smart machines comprised of sensors (the eyes and ears of the machine that detects changes in the environment), actuators (the mechanical response according to the input provided by the sensors and processed by other electronics), control systems (interconnected components that form a system configuration to obtain a desired system response), and mechatronics software (software for more complex machines).
Designs, modifies, builds, and troubleshoots industrial automation and metalworking machines using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) controls and equipment, Computerized Numerical Controller (CNC) machine tools, and computer-based Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems used in company’s production machinery.
Develops new solutions to programming problems associated with company’s machinery using mechanical and electronic processes and computer technology. Reviews company’s semi-automated industrial machines to assess the need of machine reprogramming using PLC controls and equipment and HMI programming to create a full automation industrial machine. Analyzes and resolves mechanical, electrical, PLC, and CNC program engineering issues.
Maintains and improves previous industrial and manufacture engineering processes and designs. Designs, develops, maintains, and manages high technology engineering systems for the automation of industrial processes, applying mechatronic software solutions, advanced control systems, and electronic and mechanical processes.
Reviews current machinery to assess performance and maintenance cost. Identifies and recommends opportunities for enhancement of company’s operations engineering process and efficiency.
Prepares technical manuals to be used by the machine operator and the team providing machine maintenance and provides technical support and training to company’s wheel facilities. Ensures compliance with all safety engineering policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechatronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or closely related field (foreign equivalent acceptable)
2+ years experience as a Calibration, Testing, or Maintenance Technician; Process, Maintenance, Manufacturing, or Project Engineer; or similar position.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Mechatronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or closely related field (foreign equivalent acceptable)
5+ years experience as a Calibration, Testing, or Maintenance Technician; Process, Maintenance, Manufacturing, or Project Engineer; or similar position.
